I received a text message from UNT quarterback target Josh Greer late tonight.
Greer is mulling his options and will likely make a decision tonight or tomorrow. I hope to get a heads-up when he makes the call.
Just reading the tea leaves, but to me that has to be a good sign for UNT. I haven’t talked directly to Greer, but did chat with his father, who said that he has a good relationship with UNT offensive coordinator Mike Canales, who recruited him out of high school.
Greer had a bad experience at UAB and might be looking for some place he fits with the coaches more than anything. And one can count on the fact that UNT is selling Greer on the fact Derek Thompson is graduating.
That leaves UNT with TBA at quarterback next year.
If you look at it from Greer’s perspective, who scares you heading into spring.
Dajon Williams has played all of one series in college and was supposedly injured most of last year. Andrew McNulty has been at UNT for some time and never won the starting job. Brock Berglund seems to have fallen out of favor. Connor Means will be here at the semester break, but is just a freshman.
Is there any other place in the country with that wide open a path to the starting job?
I don’t think so, and that has to be awfully enticing for a JUCO transfer like Greer, especially since he has a long-term relationship with Canales, who will have a lot to say about who starts.
