Quick HOD presser notes

North Texas head coach Dan McCarney accepts a plaque from Heart of Dallas Bowl director Brant Ringer on Thursday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas

There were no earth-shattering notes from today’s Heart of Dallas Bowl press conference today, but here are a couple of items of note:

– UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said the school is still working on finalizing a contract extension with Dan McCarney. Villarreal could provide no information on the duration or compensation being discussed, but he reiterated that UNT would like to finish up the deal soon.

– A group of UNT boosters donated $37,500 to help fund the school’s efforts to offer reduce-priced tickets to the bowl game for students.

– There were approximately 1,000 student tickets sold by 10:30 a.m. this morning. There were students lined up as early as 5 a.m. UNT later announced it had sold 1,200:

As far as the over riding themes, UNT head coach Dan McCarney talked about his team’s desire to finish the job and win the bowl game and the excitement he feels around the program. High school coaches, fans and students are jumping on board, according to McCarney and Villarreal.

I will have more later, including a video interview with UNLV coach Bobby Hauck.
