Two key UNT commits in action in the morning

A couple of key UNT recruits will be in action tomorrow on the big stage at AT&T Stadium (still sounds weird) in the Class 3A Division I state title game at noon.

Kilgore will play Carthage, which features Tee Goree and Okeeron Rutherford, a pair of wide receivers who figure to be a big part of the Mean Green’s future.

Goree is arguably UNT’s top recruit so far, while Rutherford is also a big-time athlete who might have been a little overlooked in the recruiting process.

UNT has wanted to upgrade its skill position players, especially at wide receiver, ever since Dan McCarney arrived and inherited one really good player in Brelan Chancellor, who has carried the load. Don’t forget, UNT lucked out when Darnell Smith just showed up and asked if he could play.

What makes the scenario all the more interesting is that Carthage quarterback Blake Bogenschutz is headed to UTSA.

That trio has one more game as teammates before starting what could be a five-year C-USA feud.

Here’s a preview of the game with all the stats from the Longview News-Journal.
