The UNT men’s and women’s basketball teams both have big games today.
The UNT men are at Charlotte. I will be at the game tonight out here in North Carolina.
The UNT women face UTSA in the second leg of the big showdown between the Mean Green and the upstart program down in San Antonio.
I will be around to preview the UNT-Charlotte game later tonight, but the women’s game is at 2 p.m. at the Super Pit.
Since the game is early, a couple of thoughts.
UNT beat Marshall for its first win in C-USA after losing both ends of the league’s women’s basketball road trip of death to Middle Tennessee and Charlotte.
UNT veterans Alexis Hyder and Laura McCoy played really well in the Mean Green’s win over Marshall. Hyder had 18 and McCoy 13.
Coach Mike Petersen credited both for hanging in there while mired in a slump for a couple games.
UNT will have a good shot to get to .500 in league play if both continue to play well.
UTSA beat Charlotte in its last game and is led by Kamra King. The guard is putting up 15.6 points a game, which ranks just outside the top 10 in C-USA.
UNT lost to UTSA in football, which was a bitter pill for Mean Green fans to swallow.
A win in women’s basketball isn’t going to make up for that one — not even close — but it would give the Mean Green a win over its new in-state rival.
Check back later for some thoughts on the UNT-Charlotte men’s game.
