Friday night notes

It’s Friday night and I’m out in Charlotte for tomorrow’s UNT-Charlotte men’s game. Here are a couple of tidbits of interest:

– It’s a huge weekend for UNT on the football recruiting front. UNT has a host of key prospects in town. We ran a list of nine guys who are in town earlier in the week.

This year is a lot different than those in the past in that UNT is pretty much done.

Most of the guys who UNT will sign are on board and have been for some time.

UNT has two spots left and it’s pretty clear who UNT wants.

Tillman Johnson, a defensive end from Round Rock, is the only guy I know of who is in town who has not committed to UNT. He committed to Texas State a few months ago and will make a final decision after visiting both schools.

Johnson will visit Texas State next week.

The other prospect UNT is holding out hope of landing is Cedar Hill defensive end Xavier Washington.

Washington is at Houston this weekend.

Landing Washington and Johnson would be a great way for UNT to finish.

We could know more by the end of the weekend where UNT stands.

And in other news …

We mentioned earlier today that UNT has yet to finalize its contract extension with Dan McCarney. I received secondary confirmation that UNT is still putting together the deal and is in contact with McCarney’s camp.

We could be a few days out in terms of finding out what will be in the deal.
