It was a short turnaround between last night’s UNT women’s game and the cheap flight to West Virginia for tonight’s UNT-Marshall men’s game.
Hence the late-night hoops thoughts have become the 5:17 a.m. boarding time thoughts.
Bottom line — UNT broke through for the school’s first C-USA win of the season, beating Marshall 63-50.
The interesting aspect of the win for UNT were breakout games for Laura McCoy and Alexis Hyder. The two mainstays of the past had season-best games in UNT’s win. Hyder had 18, while McCoy had 13.
Both came off the bench.
It looked for a while there like the Blonde Bomber (McCoy) might have been grounded for good for younger players who are the future of the program. McCoy played extended minutes and played well.
That was nice to see.
As far as McCarney’s contract extension goes, I was told the deal that the UNT board of regents will consider this week is essentially a lifetime contract for McCarney that will take him through the end of his career.
