Wednesday afternoon notes

The UNT women’s basketball team will play at Florida International tonight in the first game of a key two-game road trip. We talked a little about the game in the paper today.

This trip is a big one for UNT, which needs some wins quickly after falling to 1-3 in league play.

It’s also getting down to the stretch run in recruiting.

UNT has some spots to fill, but at this point it’s also important to hang on to the players who have already committed. UNT has lost two so far — Desmon White to TCU and Garrett Davis to Houston.

The next battle appears to be for Carthage wide receiver Tee Goree.

Goree Tweeted that Arkansas has started to show interest.

I like UNT’s chances to hang on to Goree, largely because his teammate O’Keeron Rutherford has also committed to UNT.

Playing in the SEC could be tempting for a player like Goree, though. The battle for his services will be one to watch down the stretch.

It sounds like UNT will also have to keep an eye on Andrew Jones now as well. He mentioned today that Oklahoma is showing interest.
