UNT pulled one out of the fire tonight, knocking off Florida International 65-63.
Chris Jones saved the day with a runner at the buzzer after the Mean Green blew a 13-point lead with 8:09 left. UNT missed the front end of a one-and-one three times in the final 1:06.
There is just no under estimating how big Jones’ shot was. Losing that game would have been a huge blow for UNT. Winning it was nearly as big.
What made the outcome even better was that the Mean Green pulled it out on a night the Alzee Williams became the 20th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
Williams was pretty excited about reaching the milestone, and he should be.
Jordan Williams led UNT with 16 points, while Alzee Williams added 14 on his big night. Jones and Colin Voss each had 10.
Tymell Murphy scored a game-high 31 points for FIU.
UNT moved into a tie for 12th place in the C-USA standings with UTSA at 4-8 and will go for the Florida sweep on Saturday at Florida Atlantic.
