The story on Bo Pullin

One of the names that has popped up in the final hours before signing day Bo Pullin, an offensive lineman from Victoria East.

Here’s the story.

Pullin is a big kid who is coming to UNT as a preferred walk-on, according to Victoria East coach Roland Gonzalez.

Pullin was a second-team all-district selection as a senior and received a few scholarship offers from smaller schools. He chose to pass on those offers to walk on at UNT.

“He did a great job for us,” Gonzalez said. “He’s talented physically. He is a young senior and is 6-5, 320. He will continue to improve as he gets into the UNT system.”

UNT has had a whole lot of luck with its walk-on program through the years. Former Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year Chris Hurd came to UNT as a walk-on. So did Derek Mendoza, who started at middle linebacker, and Casey Fitzgerald, one of the more productive wide receivers in program history.

Cornerback Kenny Buyers, one of the stars of last year’s team, and punter Blake Macek also came to UNT as walk-ons.

Pullin will try to follow the same path with the Mean Green.
