After a long plane ride and a whole lot of time working on the story of Noah Joseph’s departure from UNT, we are ready to kick off the running blog for tonight’s UNT-Florida International men’s basketball game.

Big time UNT booster Ernie Kuehne, who has a house in the area, is here for tonight’s game.

UNT snapped a five-game losing streak last time out when the Mean Green held on late for a win over East Carolina.

A couple of interesting aspects of tonight’s game:

– Alzee Williams should go over the 1,000-point mark tonight. He needs just five more points to become the 20th player in UNT history to reach that milestone.

– Kelvin Gaines is from right up the road and will be a part of a key matchup tonight. FIU has two of the better forwards in the league in Tymell Murphy and Rakeem Buckels, who are averaging 7.4 and 8.8 rebounds a game, respectively. UNT has struggled inside all season long and has depended heavily on Colin Voss, who might not be the best matchup for a couple of good athletes.

– UNT is looking at this trip as a chance to make a late run at a bye in the conference tournament. UNT is two games behind both FIU and Florida Atlantic in the conference standings and plays both on this trip.
