The UNT women’s basketball team will tip off its game at Tulsa in a few minutes. The game is up at Tulsa. I’m in Florida with the UNT men’s team that will play later today at Florida Atlantic, but as always, here are a few thoughts and tidbits heading into the game.
UNT is coming off a monster win over UTEP at home in its last outing and is hoping to continue to move up in the Conference USA standings late in the year.
UNT is sitting there at 5-7 in league play and is in a tie for eighth place. At 11-14 it’s not out of the question that UNT could finish with a winning record. UNT has suffered through seven straight losing seasons for those of you scoring at home, but appears to be headed in the right direction under Mike Petersen, who has only been around for one of them.
The fact that UNT is in a decent spot is a pretty big surprise considering UNT has lost a ton of close games and a host of important players to critical injuries.
Eboniey Jeter was pretty much just a name on the roster before UNT’s game against UTEP. Jeter went off for 19 against the Miners when she filled a rather large void left by a season-ending knee injury to Acheil Tac, one of UNT’s key forwards.
UNT should be able to build on that win against Tulsa, which is going down the tubes quickly. The Golden Hurricane has lost its last six.
It’s always tough on the road, but today’s game is one UNT can win. It would really help the Mean Green’s cause if it can pull it out.
