Friday morning notes (recruiting tidbits, former UNT softball coach in regional)

Joshua Jones, an offensive lineman from Fort Bend UNT is recruiting, was offered by both TCU and Purdue in the last day or so.

UNT’s satellite camps are coming up. We should start to see things pick up on the recruiting front in the next few weeks. Dan McCarney likes to meet players before they officially commit to UNT. We should see some commitments finalized once those camps start. I will put the dates up in the next couple of days.

And in a side note, the regionals in college softball start today. There are a couple of UNT connections worth mentioning as they get started.

Conference USA has two teams in — Tulsa and UAB.

UNT had a terrific season before being bounced by Tulsa in the conference tournament. Tracey Kee has the program heading in the right direction.

T.J. Hubbard (ULL sports information)

The other UNT connection in the tournament of note is former coach T.J. Hubbard. He is now the associate head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette, the No. 6 seed in the whole tournament. ULL is hosting a regional this week.

Hubbard had the record for most wins in a season by a UNT coach until Kee broke that mark this season. He also played a key role in recruiting some of the better players in UNT history, including Brooke Foster, the all-time leader in wins in Mean Green history, and Ashley Kirk, the all-time leader in pitching wins.

It’s nice to see that a good guy like Hubbard landed on his feet after leaving UNT.
