Monday afternoon notes (recruiting tidbits, et cetera)

We are getting into the dead of the off-season when it comes to the UNT sports calendar, but there were a few items of interest to come around in the last day or so.

First off, the parade of teams coming through to see Chris Riddle, the Florida quarterback UNT is recruiting, continued this week when Iowa State stopped by. Riddle is in the heart of one of the best recruiting territories on the planet, has his own website and is pretty talented. UNT is going to have to fight pretty hard to win the battle for his commitment.

On the hoops recruiting front, a couple of UNT’s key rivals picked up big commitments.

Florida Atlantic signed CJ Turman, a power forward who was committed to Tennessee before Cuonzo Martin left for Cal. That is a great pickup for the Owls.

And finally, SMU’s basketball program keeps picking up momentum.

Matthew McQuaid, a shooting guard out of Duncanville ranked among the top 100 players nationally, committed to SMU. The Mustangs are going to be really good for the foreseeable future.
