Thoughts on DT to Broncos, other football notes (Michigan to play at SMU)

North Texas quarterback Derek Thompson has been invited to a Denver Broncos mini camp. Thompson helped lead UNT to a win over UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. (Denton Record-Chronicle/David Minton)

Former UNT quarterback Derek Thompson is headed to the Denver to participate in a mini camp. The move came down today. Thompson confirmed it via Twitter.

It’s amazing all Thompson has accomplished and how little he has been appreciated during most of his time at UNT, and in the short time that he has been gone. Some UNT fans wanted to replace him before the season started. Heck, he didn’t earn the starting job until right before the season started.

He’s now led UNT to a 9-4 season and was the MVP of the Heart of Dallas Bowl and been invited to an NFL mini camp.

Don’t think for a minute that UNT won’t miss him next season.

And just because I know scheduling and SMU are two big-time hot button topics at UNT …

SMU is getting Michigan to come to Dallas in 2015 (just to be clear here, we are talking basketball). UNT has a yearly series coming up with SMU in football beginning in the fall.
