UNT makes cut for Quadree Smith, who delays decision, other notes

We mentioned this morning that power forward Quadree Smith would announce his college destination today.

UNT became involved with Smith late in the recruiting process.

Well …

Smith won’t decide today after all. But he did make a cut to five teams he is still looking at and UNT is among them, along with Tulane, St. Peter’s, Austin Peay and Niagara.

The problem is that today is the end of the late signing period.

UNT could still get Smith in some time before school starts. The process is just a little different. Kedrick Hogans was a guy who committed to UNT and enrolled after the period ended.

Stay tuned on that front.

And in other somewhat UNT related news, former TCU quarterback Tyler Matthews will transfer to Southern Miss.

Matthews played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl his senior year.

I’m telling you now, Southern Miss won’t be down forever in football. That program has been good for a long time. The school just made a horrifically bad hire that sunk the program for a while.
