Brooke Jolivette talks about decision to commit to UNT

Humble Kingwood guard Brooke Jolivette had a good feeling about the prospect of playing for UNT heading into a visit to the school on Friday.

The short time Jolivette spent on campus sealed her decision to commit to UNT.

“I went to the campus, got into the gym and started playing,” Jolivette said. “I really felt comfortable and felt the love from the coaches. I played really well. It felt right.”

Jolivette, who is 5-foot-11, was a first-team All-District 13-5A selection as a junior last season, when she averaged 12.8 points and 4.6 rebounds a game.

Houston Baptist also offered Jolivette a scholarship. Bucknell, Tulane and Belmont also showed interest.

Jolivette settled on UNT in part because she believes she is a fit for head coach Mike Petersen’s up-tempo system.

“I like that they play in the open floor,” Jolivette said. “The coaches said that they are really glad to have me and that I could make a difference at UNT.”

Jolivette has family that lives in the Denton area, including an uncle who will only be 20 minutes away when she begins her career.

“I feel like I can be successful and become a better person and a better player at North Texas,” Jolivette said.

Stay tuned and pick up the Denton Record-Chronicle in the next two days for more on Jolivette.
