Some leftover hoops notes

I swung by Tony Benford’s office today to talk for a story on UNT landing Texas A&M transfer J-Mychal Reese.

UNT is really excited about adding the point guard to its roster. See tomorrow’s paper for more.

While I was leaving, I walked right past this guy …

Michael Kolawole is a 6-foot-3 guard from Rowlett who averaged 14.9 points and 4.7 rebounds a game last year.

The best place I found information on him is on Verbal Commitments, which indicates he has offers from Fresno State and Sam Houston. He has also been by UTA.

While I was there I picked up a couple of other tidbits …

– Jordan Williams hosted Reese and will probably room with him. Reese visited during a camp when Roger Franklin, Vertrail Vaughns, T.J. Taylor and Greg White-Pittman were also around. Reese knew off of those guys and played with White-Pittman on a team that was part of the Houston Hoops AAU summer program.

– Jeremy Combs and White-Pittman are in summer school. The rest of the team will be in next week. Benford said that UNT will not have any eligibility issues heading into the season, which is great news.

– Benford said Armani Flannigan is UNT’s most improved player. He also complimented Williams for developing into a great leader and said he has had a good off-season.
