UNT on verge of picking up second commitment

UNT appears to be on the verge of landing its second commitment for the Class of 2015.

Nate Brooks, a defensive back from Whitehouse UNT has been recruiting for several months, will be in Denton on Monday and said Sunday afternoon that he will likely “make it official” and commit to play for the Mean Green during his visit.

Ryan Walters and Noah Joseph were UNT’s defensive backs coaches when the Mean Green began recruiting Brooks. The 6-foot, 160-pound senior and his mother developed a relationship with both.

Brooks has since formed a connection with UNT running backs coach Tommy Perry, who recruits East Texas, as well as LaMarcus Hicks and Perry Carter, who have taken over coaching UNT’s cornerbacks and safeties, respectively.

Brooks’ mother will have a chance to meet both Hicks and Carter today.

Brooks was a first-team All-District 16-4A selection last season when he intercepted four passes. He is rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports.

UNT is recruiting Brooks as a cornerback, but the Mean Green’s coaches believe he has the skills the could make him a fit at safety, depending on the way he develops.

Brooks’ recruiting process has developed into a head-to-head battle between UNT and Louisiana Tech, which has also offered a scholarship.

It’s a battle UNT appears to be on the verge of winning and adding its class that already includes Tyler John Tyler wide receiver Rodney Bendy.
