The honors continue to come in for UNT’s offensive line that was a key component of the Mean Green’s run to a a 9-4 finish and a win over UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl last season.
Guards Cyril Lemon and Mason Y’Barbo were both named to the Lombardi Award watch list on Monday.
The Lombardi goes to the nation’s top lineman or linebacker each season.
There were a total of 123 players nominated.
The Lombardi news comes just days after Lemon was named to the Outland Trophy watch list.
Lemon was a first-team All-Conference USA selection last season, while Y’Barbo was a second-team pick.
UNT has leaned heavily on its offensive front during the last two seasons and seen the group produce at a high level. UNT led the nation in fewest sacks allowed in 2012 with six and tied with Fresno State for seventh last season, when the Mean Green surrendered 11 sacks. UNT’s total of 17 sacks allowed the last two seasons combined is the lowest in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
