Thursday morning notes — Lemon makes Outland watch list

North Texas running back Reggie Pegram celebrates with offensive linemen Antonio Johnson, center and Cyril Lemon after Pegram scored during a win over Middle Tennessee. Lemon was named to the Outland Award watch list on Thursday.

UNT senior offensive lineman Cyril Lemon was named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy on Thursday. The award goes to the top interior lineman in college football.

Here is the full list, which also includes Rice defensive tackle Christian Covington. The two were C-USA’s only players named to the list.

Quite a few of the the watch lists for the major college football awards have already been released. Lemon is the first UNT player to be named to one.

Lemon was a first-team All-Conference USA selection last season. UNT’s coaches love everything about Lemon and believe he could be the first UNT player drafted since Cody Spencer in 2004.

Having Lemon make the watch list is a great sign for UNT heading into next season.

And in other news …

South Florida is showing interest in JUCO point guard Mike Rodriguez of Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College, who UNT is very interested in and has spent a lot of time recruiting. We talked to Rodriguez a few days ago, when he told us that UNT was leading for his services heading into the All American JUCO Showcase in Augusta, Ga., later this month.

And finally, UNT tweeted out a few shots from Mean Green Night at the Rangers game last night. Former UNT greats Lance Dunbar and Johnny Quinn were the main attractions.
