Former UNT standout Tony Mitchell will play his first game of the season with the Detroit Pistons’ summer league team at 2 p.m. today against the Houston Rockets.
The video at the top of the blog is one of the monster dunks Mitchell threw down during his first summer league stint last year. That one was a game-winner.
You can check out the Pistons’ summer league roster here.
Mitchell averaged 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds a game during the summer pro league last year.
There were some who watched Mitchell play his sophomore season at UNT who doubted that he would end up playing in the NBA after he admitted that he didn’t always play hard in that final year. Mitchell didn’t play much, but ultimately proved his doubters wrong by playing in 21 games with the Pistons last season while moving up and down a few times between the NBA and the NBA Developmental League.
I talked with one person close to Mitchell during the off-season who said that he was staying in Detroit to work out.
We could begin to see today how much Mitchell progressed during the last few months.
