Wichita Falls defensive lineman RD Wegmann confirmed this morning that he has committed to UNT.
Wegmann was a first-team All-District 5-4A selection as a junior. UNT recruited Wegmann, who is 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, as a defensive lineman who could play either tackle or end, depending on the way he develops.
Wegmann and his high school coach Mark Bindle announced his decision last night at Wichita Falls annual Fan Fest.
“The coaching staff and that North Texas is close to home were big for me,” Wegmann said. “I have been down there so many times I can’t even count.”
Wegmann chose UNT over offers form Air Force, Colorado State and Texas State. He was recruited by UNT tight ends coach Nick Quartaro.
Wegmann has several ties to UNT’s program. He is a former high school teammate of UNT offensive lineman Harrison Sorge.
Sorge’s younger brother is one of Wegmann’s current high school teammates.
“I wanted to commit before my senior year, but it just felt like the right time,” Wegmann said. “I was confident in it.”
