Wednesday morning notes (UNT hoops C-USA sked out, recruiting tidbits)

And now for some thoughts.

UNT has a tough road trip early on in conference play, heading to Rice, Charlotte and Old Dominion, followed by what will be a tough game against Louisiana Tech at the Super Pit.

UNT also has its traditional road game against Western Kentucky. UNT seemed to play on the road against the Hilltoppers every year in the Sun Belt and has a road game against WKU in their first meeting as members of C-USA.

And in other news, we shot the cover for our annual football magazine this morning. Denton defensive end Dailon Holmes was one of the players at the shoot.

A sharp UNT fan noticed that he is wearing a Mean Green jersey in his Twitter photo. I caught up with him today. He told me pretty much the same thing he mentioned when we talked to him for our on-going UNT recruiting target series.

Holmes has not committed to UNT. He really likes what the program has to offer, but wants to see what transpires during and after his senior season. Holmes is a good prospect and believes that more opportunities could come his way if he plays well this year.

In other news on the recruiting front, Florida quarterback Chris Riddle told Tarrapin Station, a website that covers Maryland, that UNT is his top school at this point.

UNT offensive coordinator Mike Canales is recruiting Riddle. Whether or not Riddle ends up playing for the Mean Green will likely come down to a number of factors, including how UNT’s quarterbacks play this fall and if they all stick around after this season, which will ultimately determine if UNT elects to sign a quarterback. At that point, UNT will have to determine who it wants. Riddle appears to be on UNT’s wish list. And UNT is definitely on Riddle’s list. We will find out in the next few weeks if there is a match there.
