Wednesday night notes and tidbits (football, hoops notes)

UNT’s season-opener against Texas continues to get more and more interesting due to a run of injuries the Longhorns have suffered during fall camp.

We’ll get to that, but first a quick reminder.

There have been a few people who have dropped me an e-mail or called to ask where the reports from practice are at.

Again …

PRACTICE IS CLOSED.

There are big signs at practice denoting that fact.

They do not let reporters in.

Dan McCarney is a little old school in that regard. He’s always closed practice in the fall and I don’t think it’s going to change. Players are available after practice a couple times a week. I should be able to pick up some material tomorrow.

Stay tuned.

As far as Texas goes, the news came down today that wide receiver Jaxon Shipley has a hamstring injury.

Make no mistake, the more injuries and dismissals Texas has, the better UNT’s shot at the upset will be. What we don’t know at this point is if UNT has lost anyone.

UNT also released its >men’s basketball schedule today.

Considering its conference play, there are no real surprises in there. I wrote about this for tomorrow’s paper, but that three-game run against Texas teams to open conference play will be huge.

That could make or break UNT’s season right there.
