I spent a lot of time this week talking to current and former players and UNT head coach Dan McCarney about the Mean Green’s series with the Mustangs for a story that ran in today’s paper.
Much of the story was based on one-hit wonder and all-around good guy Woody Wilson, who is now working as a supervisor at the Tyson plant in Fayetteville, Ark.
I would have to rank Wilson’s performance that day among the best for a single game for a UNT quarterback in the last 10 years.
Wilson was electric that day. There is no way UNT wins that game without him.
It would rank up there with Derek Thompson’s performance in the Heart of Dallas Bowl and a few big outings by Scott Hall during the bowl era. Hall is still the best quarterback UNT has had in the last 15 years, if not more.
And in an unrelated note, I am sitting here watching UTSA hang with Arizona in front of 33,472. This might not be a popular opinion in Denton, but I don’t think UTSA is going anywhere but up as a program.
