G: Ryan Woolridge, 6-3, Fr. — Woolridge scored 13 points and posted eight steals in UNT’s win over UTSA. He has scored in double figures in three straight games and four of his last five. The freshman is averaging 10.1 points per game and has 48 assists in 17 games.
G: A.J. Lawson, 6-5, Fr. — Lawson scored just three points in 12 minutes in UNT’s win over UTSA, ending a string of four games in which he has scored in double figures. Lawson took just four shots against the Roadrunners and is now averaging 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
F: Shane Temara, 6-9, Jr. — Temara posted the best game of his time at UNT in the Mean Green’s win over UTSA. The junior scored 19 points and hit three 3s. He also grabbed nine rebounds. Temara is averaging 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
F: Derail Green, 6-7, Sr. — Green continued his recent hot streak by scoring 10 points in UNT’s win over UTSA. He has scored in double figures in each of the Mean Green’s last two games and has hit 10 shots from 3-point range in that span. He is averaging 7.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
Scouting Louisiana Tech: The Bulldogs have won six straight games heading into their showdown with UNT. Senior forward Erik McCree is averaging 17.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game and is a near lock for first-team All-C-USA honors. Jacobi Boykins is adding 14.6 points per game. Louisiana Tech is averaging 76.9 points per game and rank third in the league in scoring.
What you need to know: UNT jumped out of sole possession of last place in the C-USA standings and into a tie with Florida International for last at 2-12.
The Mean Green are hoping to make a late run at one of the 12 spots in the C-USA tournament, but might need to win out to reach that goal.
UNT coach Tony Benford believes his players have adjusted late in the season to new roles after the Mean Green lost several key players for the season due to injury, including Jeremy Combs and Deckie Johnson.
UNT focuses a lot of its attention on its defense. The Mean Green will be hard-pressed to slow down the Bulldogs, who can fill it up.
