North Texas has agreed to a five-year contract with new men’s basketball coach Grant McCasland with a yearly base salary of $600,000.
A total of $2.5 million in the contract is guaranteed
UNT will also pay Arkansas State a buyout of $500,000.
UNT announced it had hired McCasland on Monday.
UNT has yet to release the details of the contract, but a source confirmed the contents of the deal to the Jonesboro Sun. The paper published a report on what UNT offered McCasland to lure him to Denton tonight.
UNT paid former coach Tony Benford $400,000 per year.
The contract represents an unprecedented investment in the program for UNT. The school also has plans in place to renovate the men’s locker rooms in the Super Pit this summer.
“The biggest cost is not having a winning program,” UNT athletic director Wren Baker said on Monday after hiring McCasland.
