North Texas pushed its number of early commitments for the Class of 2008 to three on Thursday with the addition of Vernon safety Darien Williams, a player who ranks among the better athletes in West Texas. Williams is heading into his third year as a starter at Vernon and finished with 135 tackles in 15 games last season. Vernon coach Keith Hall described Williams as a vicious hitter and one of the smartest players on his team. Williams is one of the players UNT probably landed thanks in large part to going after the top prospects in the area early on. Williams is scheduled to attend Rice's summer camp in a few weeks. TCU, Tulsa and Arizona were interested. UNT offered Williams a scholarship and he decided to commit early. Check out tomorrow's edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle or our Web site www.dentonrc.com late tonight for a complete story on Williams that includes comments from Williams and Hall. |
