The end of the season -- especially ones like UNT is in the midst of -- require some uncomfortable questions. This week I tried to ask a few. One I directed toward quarterback Giovanni Vizza. The freshman has had an outstanding season, but is also in an interesting situation heading into next year with the impending arrival of Riley Dodge, the son of head coach Todd Dodge. Riley is a quarterback like his father, one many will expect to start the moment he sets foot on campus. Vizza would be a hot commodity on the transfer market, but said this week he is staying put at UNT. It should make for an interesting position battle heading into next season. Feel free to post your thoughts here. What would be the ideal situation next season when both Vizza and Dodge will be on campus? |

It will be a good battle, and if Dodge ends up here in the spring it should be even better. If Vizza wins out, Dodge will redshirt. One thing is for sure, it's a nice problem to have.

I'm far from an expert, but I would say redshirt Riley and give Vizza the reins next year. Then, let them battle it out the following season. The offense is clearly coming together, and will be our strength going into next season. I think keeping the status quo there, since we will be seeing changes on the defense, makes the most sense. Riley is no doubt a great player and QB, but I personally don't want to sit through another season of the QB getting used to the players and the college game. UNT is in a great position with these guys and needs to devise a plan that maximizes the potential of both.

I believe the best answer for all concerned would be to redshirt Riley Dodge. I am confident that Coach Dodge is well aware of the volatile team issues that could be at work here.

I hope Vizza starts the next four years. Considering his accomplishments as a true freshman, I am excited about what the future might hold for him.
In my humble opinion, I hope Riley redshirts and matures physically. He would then be able to apprentice/play back-up for two years and step in his Junior year.
