One of the benefits of writing for Dave Campbell's Texas Football -- other than a hefty check -- is that the editors send you an early copy. I wrote the UNT and Sun Belt previews again this year.

Here are a few tidbits:

UNT's recruiting class was rated fifth out of nine teams in the state, ahead of TCU, Houston, UTEP, Rice and SMU. Quarterback Riley Dodge was the only UNT player ranked among the top 75 recruits in the state.

Wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald, offensive lineman Kelvin Drake and linebacker Craig Robertson were selected for the All-Texas College Team.

I never got around to turning in a questionnaire the magazine sent to all the writers in the state about the upcoming season, but several other writers did. One of the questions was who would win each conference title. Nearly every writer picked either Troy or Florida Atlantic to win the Sun Belt. I picked FAU when I wrote the Sun Belt preview.

UNT was once again the headline on a story about Texas schools' performance on the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate report. The magazine used part of a page on a story that detailed UNT losing five scholarships for next season.
