We have an interesting debate going on the Mean Green Blog over Todd Dodge and his public comments that he is holding UNT to the promise it made him to have a stadium by 2010 when he was hired. Zach T. weighed in with the following today: "Here's the funny thing, hypocritical really...Darrell Dickey got accused of whining when he spoke about the need for better facilities; Dodge mentions it, and people praise him. Yes, my alma mater's football fans are indeed that stupid and superficial...with memory banks equal to that of sheep. Wake me up when Dodge has four consecutive bowl teams. To me, a coach going 2-10 then running around giving his opinion about the stadium, etc...please. He's the moron who came in saying there'd be no excuses. Gee, things sure do look different from the drivers seat, eh, Todd? Dope." It's an interesting point. Darrell Dickey often said it was tough to win at UNT because of the overall situation and was blasted for that. Perhaps my favorite Dickey quote ever went something like this after practice was called of for the day due to rain. "We were going to go practice in our indoor facility, but we were afraid the players would get hurt running into the lockers." Insert cymbal crash here. Lets keep this going. Post your thoughts on the blog on Dodge going public with UNT saying it would have a stadium by 2010 when it hired him and whether is he getting a free pass for saying the same things about UNT's facilities as Dickey. |

Everyone knows its tough to win with sub-par facilities. For Zach T the difference is this. Rather than bemoaning his situation like DD and using precious opportunities in front of the media to make disparaging remarks about our alma mater. TD is going positive. Also take for example the contrasting comments regarding scheduling. We all know the OOC schedule is less than ideal. TD says things like "I wasn't consulted" and we are going to show up and expect to win, and he coaches as such. DD would make comments that would put down a chance at winning or even coaching to win. I'm not here to piss on DD's time here I enjoyed it immensely up until the end. Without what he accomplished and what TD is and will accomplish the stadium dream would be even further out of reach.

Mr. Dickey created his own bed when he continued complaining about the facilities he had after moving into the athletic center, getting a new locker room, practice fields, etc.
How is that comparable to Coach Dodge saying he was told to expect a stadium by 2010? Just in the biased mind of Brett I guess....

I have never heard TD say anything to the tune of, "Friday night we will show the team game tapes of Texas. We will see how many will show up for the bus to Austin on Saturday."
DD had an edge on his comedy routine... an edge that said, "in no possible way conceivable are we in a position to win. Not at this terrible school."
When TD does that, you will see the same reaction as DD eventually started getting.

This is all a coordinated effort between Dodge and Rick V. Rick gave TD the green light to talk about the stadium and get the students fired up. Smart play.

all this "talk" is making me nervous because other schools especially one to the west have a lot of talk about a new east side of the stadium and money for it being donated and also 15 million for academics
unt needs more than TV talk and call outs....we need action

Tell Darrell he is welcome to his thoughts anytime.

My question is how is UNT going to pay for this new stadium? I would not expect from ticket sales based on history, so pass this cost on the the poor students that really could care less about football and only want a top notch education?
