Mean Green

UNT students will begin voting on an athletic fee this week. After yet another loss, the outcome seems like the most important aspect left of the Mean Green's football season.

UNT has to have something to sell to recruits, not to mention fans. The Mean Green is now 2-16 in the Todd Dodge era and the shine has started to wear off UNT's latest coaching hire.

UNT is 0-6 and won't compete for the Sun Belt Conference title this season and appears destined for yet another dismal season.

About all that can salvage the year at this point is a dramatic turnaround on the field or a vote that could help build a new stadium in the polls. The later seems a whole lot more likely at this point. UNT still has games left with Sun Belt powerhouses Troy and Arkansas State. The other four games UNT will play are on the road where the Mean Green has never won under Dodge.

UNT doesn't seem likely to right the ship on the field at this point, but it could take a step closer to having a new field is students vote for a fee increase. A fee of $10 per credit hour per student would be a huge lift for the athletic department and something UNT can sell to recruits.

It seems like more than ever, the fate of the UNT athletic department is in the students' hands.
