UNT announced late Wednesday night on the athletic department Web site that former Texas Tech signee DeWayne Baziel has joined the Mean Green as a walk-on.

Baziel was a three-star recruit at defensive end coming out of Galveston Ball in 2006. He spent a couple of years at Cisco Junior College after leaving Tech.

He was a second team all-conference pick last year. Here's a link to the team: All-SWJCFC

According to UNT, he could be eligible this season or could sit out and begin his career next year or he could never play at UNT at all.

UNT has picked up a number of players who have not worked out for one reason or another at larger programs over the last few months.

Baziel was kicked off the team at Texas Tech for a violation of team rules.

This is just the type of player UNT should be looking for, the kind that has helped other teams in the Sun Belt and other mid-major leagues. The UNTs of the world are not going to land players like Baziel out of high school unless there are a unique set of circumstances that lead them to pass on high major offers.

UNT has a bunch on the roster now, including Tyler Stradford, who was at Oklahoma, K.C. Obi, who was committed to San Diego State until being cut loose at the last minute, and LaChris Anyiam, who came on the market at the last minute when he met NCAA academic requirements.
