Today was the big media availability day for UNT. I will be using some things I picked up in the paper the rest of the week, but here are the highlights. UNT is preparing for both Trey Revell and Cody Wells and doesn't know who will play quarterback this week for ULM. Charlie Weatherbie isn't talking, either. This is just my guess, but I bet we see Revell this week. The Warhawks have a chance to get to a bowl game and Weatherbie is under the gun. He will play Revell if he can get him on the field. Micah Mosley has a concussion, didn't practice today and is questionable for the Mean Green's game against ULM. He was injured while playing special teams. Oklahoma State transfer William Cole practiced for the first time Tuesday. I should be able to get a better look at him the next time I am out there. Dodge said there would be no lineup changes this week, so the shifts that UNT made against Western Kentucky that paid off appear as if they will be in place for another week. Eddrick Gilmore will be at defensive end, Tevinn Cantly will be at tackle, et cetera. I would expect Jeremy Phillips to play a lot. T. asked a couple of good questions today, including if we will see Kylie Hill back at safety after the emergence of Phillips. I doubt it. Dodge really likes the combination of DaWaylon Cook and Ira Smith back there. There was also a question posted about UNT focusing on stopping the run for the rest of the season. Gary DeLoach is a bend-but-don't-break guy. My guess is we will see UNT try to prevent the big play against the Warhawks this week. ULM is throwing the ball pretty well. Revell ranks second in the league in passing efficiency. My guess is UNT tries to keep him contained and not give up the deep ball. E-mail entry: |
Hey Brett, It you don't mind indulging me, I hope you might ask Coach DeLoach directly whether he has given any thought to giving Ross some plays at the DE spot. I'd like to know what he sees in Ross playing DT against much shorter interior linemen that I don't.
Ross looks like an athlete who should be a dominant player, but he just looks out of place to me. I'd hate to see that be the status quo for his career.
Anyway...if you don't mind passing the question along, I'd sure like to hear his insights.
Also with regards to the Mosley injury, when did that occur? Was there an intent by the coaching staff to use Mosely as the short yardage back last game that the injury prevented?
As a long time Mosley advocate I was frankly quite happy and suprised to see him get a short yardage opportunity on a 2nd and one early in the game (He successfully completed it).
It hit me as another instance of Todd Dodge and staff again listening to criticism and fairly weighing it against their current actions --- what I want from a coach as a fan.
The wildcat set TD run was another good example of the coaching staff showing some growth in handling short yardage sets and a lack of the intransigence they have at times shown in the past in sticking with their inital ideas.
Todd Dodge made his name by innovating and I like to see it.
But then Mosely wasn't used again all game, which was a little confusing. Was that due to the concussion, or does Mosley still not have a real role on this team beyond acting as an occasional blocker and a once every 3 game rusher?
One last question. What is the deal with Cam Montgomery?
I know this has been reported as a hamstring injury, but is that really all that is going on there?
I know you can't bench Dunbar at this point with as well as he's played, but the backup carries aren't going to montgomery either and when he has played he hasn't been the same player.
Is there friction with the staff or is this really a simple hamstring injury that has just hung around? With the history Dodge's staff has had with suddenly getting cross with players I feel like I should ask.
Is he ready to go again yet?
