I spent yesterday working on a story on the latest player to commit to UNT -- Arlington Martin defensive lineman Mustafa Haboul.
There was some other late movement in the recruiting game that I thought was interesting that I didn't get to.
It isn't often that UNT recruits the same players as other schools in the Sun Belt. UNT is too far away from the rest of the schools in the league most of the time with a few notable exceptions.
Phillip Tanner left Dallas and a UNT offer behind to play for Middle Tennessee, proceeded to torch the Mean Green for four years and ended up playing for the Dallas Cowboys.
I'm not saying this is a similar situation or anything close to it, but Oklahoma City three-star defensive end Quintaz Strubble committed to Arkansas State this week. Colorado State was also in the hunt. UNT had an offer out to him at one point.
It should be interesting to see how he does for ASU, which is raking in the top recruits.
As for the mailbag, BenW asked where all the scholarships are coming from considering Dan McCarney said UNT was going to take a class of 23 and two of those spots are going to transfers.
There are going to be some players in this class who will grayshirt and join the team at the semester break after the season. That would be my guess.

Hey Brett, Phillip Tanner played free safety against us in 06, had 37 yards rushing in 07 and 162 in 08. Don't think that qualifies as "proceeded to torch the Mean Green for four years..." Sure, we've lost a few recruits to other schools, rarely other Sun Belt teams, but let's at least be honest in our reporting.
