There was a pretty good question posted on the blog today. I mentioned that UNT is really in a spot where it can't lose in conference realignment now.

My point is that UNT probably stands a decent chance to get into the Alliance if Conference USA and the Mountain West merge.

If UNT is passed over again, UNT still wins to a certain extent

Why?

Right now I don't think it is going out on too big a limb to say that the Sun Belt is a step below both CUSA and the MWC on the college athletics food chain.

If those two leagues merge to become one conference, that means there is one less league ahead of the Sun Belt in the pecking order in college athletics.

And there is always a chance the WAC goes away as a football league when all is said and done. If that happens, the Sun Belt's stature again grows.

It would be painful for UNT if it is left out again, especially if, for example, Florida International gets into the Alliance over UNT.

In the end, there is just no way UNT doesn't come out in a better spot than it is now.

And in other news ...

I don't often talk non-revenue sports on the blog, but it is worth mentioning that UNT's tennis team knocked off Kansas State a couple of days ago.

It was a huge win for the Mean Green. Kansas State was ranked No. 53 nationally.

Sujay Lama is building quite a program over in his corner of the world of the Mean and the Green.

In women's basketball, Karen Aston can win the 200th game of her career tomorrow when UNT faces FIU.

not sure about your thinking process. If league(s) dissolve and we stiil end up in the belt it's not a step up for us. It's like plankton rejoicing when an animal goes extinct. You didn't move up in the food chain, you're still at the bottom

If UNT is left out, it is a total failure, period.

Agree with the above postings: Your 'math' is all wrong. If you have 5 conferences above you, and they merge into 2, they're still above you (?). You're still a bottom feeder.

I like the mention of success as it relates to our non revenue sports. That's another MARKETING point - we have failed to marker our success of other other mens/womens team sports. We're actually competitive with any other conference with exception of football. This story has to get out in the metroplex!

I also agree - IF we are left out of this next round - we need a NEW AD. I have been a huge RV fan for the past 10 years - we've experienced much improvement in facilities and coaching (recently) under his watch.

However his strategy of continually turning down the WAC, NOT publicly marketing the program to move to another conference, and perhaps working behind closed doors to attempt to get it done - has produced ZERO results in 12 years. That's not acceptable. There is no reason we should be taking a back seat to UCF, USF, SMU, and San Diego State ?!!

RV - you need to 'git er done'!

Don Brett Vito Corlione if you are at the bottom and things above you die off......you are still at the bottom

as for RV he has been stabbed in the back too many times and he has had his enthusiasm and words used against him too many times to go that route any longer

from the day the fool al hurley let RV step up and talk about raising 90 million and then promptly pulled the rug from him, to the number of times it took to get the stadium off the ground to the multiple turnovers of the higher admin RV has been burned by them and that time and again and I am sure he no longer has the desire or the spirit to stick his neck out any longer nor should he when it usually results in another knife cut to it
